What is forwarder’s, carrier’s and warehouse keeper’s liability insurance?

Freight forwarder’s insurance provides the policyholder with cover for his or her activities as a freight forwarder, carrier or warehouse keeper. He/she is in particular held liable for loss of or damage to the goods handed over to him/her and for failure to meet delivery deadlines.

WHAT ARE TYPICAL CASES OF DAMAGE OR LOSS?

• Damage to the shipped goods due to an accident caused by the carrier
• Loss of the shipped or stored goods due to theft
• Incorrect loading
• Delayed delivery of the shipped goods at the place of destination
• Incorrect labeling

For the carrier or forwarder acting on his or her own behalf, who transports goods by road within Germany using a vehicle with a permissible total weight of more than 3.5 tons, the freight forwarder’s, carrier’s and warehouse keeper’s liability insurance is furthermore a compulsory insurance, the non-holding of which can lead to considerable fines and the refusal of a business license.
